CUARTETOS CRIOLLOS

clarinet quartet (2018)

Performance in Bloomington, Indiana, 2020

Performance in Lima, Peru, 2021 (last movement only)

Listening to my students’ performance of the Cuartetos Criollos by Daniel Cueto, I admire the effect that the work had on the audience and on the performers. The music was also highly praised by the professors, and the students were very motivated by the work’s Latin American rhythms and gestures. Even know the performers were from very diverse backgrounds, they became so intensely united -particularly in the last movement- in creating that warm and inspired “Peruvian song”
— Luis Rossi, founder of Rossi Clarinets

About

The Cuartetos Criollos are arrangements for clarinet quartet of three of the Estudios Criollos. The latter piece is a series of five concert etudes for solo clarinet, and is published by Cayambis Music Press.

Based on traditional genres from the coast of Peru, with a unique mix of African, European and Native South American musical influences, these pieces are meant to represent a fascinating artistic tradition still largely unknown to many musicians and concertgoers around the globe.
